Friday is Liberation Day -- one of the biggest celebrations of the year on Guam. This year they mark the 62nd anniversary of liberation from the very brutal Japanese occupation of World War II.
It was on July 21, 1944 that the Marines and the Army landed on Guam. The Battle of Guam lasted until August 10th. There were hold-outs, though, and the last Japanese soldier was discovered in the jungle on January 24, 1972.
Friday is also the day when Cheryl and I travel to Arizona for a visit with my parents.
