Easter break is over and we're way too busy. But it is going well.
Here are few highlights:
~ Easter break was hardly a break. I was hoping to get some reading and class preparation done. But I ended up spending the entire week evaluating computers and rewiring the computer lab. It didn't go as smoothly as we hoped and we have a lot fewer functioning computers than I thought.
~ We did have a great Easter -- even though it was kind of lonely with none of the usual bustle of our now grown children and extended family. The picture is one I took at the sunrise service we went to. It was a first for us -- seeing the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean.
~ We are awaiting the the US government to transfer $133,000 into the PIBC account so that we can buy new computers for the school. It's all a part of a USDA/RUS distance learning grant -- a project that I inherited when I arrived at PIBC. Some of the money will be used to buy new computers which will go into the computer lab on the Guam campus. Much of it will go to set up computers at our remote sites and campus. So, we are in waiting mode.
~ Even though I've got a part-time IT assistant, a college kid who helps 10 hours per week, I still spend way too much time trying to solve computer-related issues for the campus. IT could easily be a full-time job in itself. But that's not the primary place where my energy needs to go right now. So we're still looking for an "IT missionary." We've got all kinds of plans and opportunities but keeping the technology running smoothly seems to be holding us back.
~ I'm enjoying my classes. The soteriology class is full of good discussion. And we've had a round of really good sermons in my preaching class. I do miss preaching and leading worship -- but at this point it seems more important to focus on developing other preachers and teachers.
~ Cheryl has been working on a new song. I think it's the first one that has come since we got to Guam.
~ We did get to Chamorro Village for BBQ tonight. So it's not all work and no play. But after stopping to buy groceries on the way home I ended up spending a few hours grading papers and writing sermon evaluations. There is more to do but my brain has had enough.
~ Check my Brad.Boydston.us blog. I post there a lot more often than on this one. The focus is pretty eclectic over there. On this blog I am trying to deal with things related to our work with PIBC, projects in the Pacific, and occasionally good news from other mission outposts.
Thanks for praying for us!
