~ The flight from Chuuk to Guam is between 2:25 and 4 a.m. Thus the night was pretty well shot for sleeping. I did get a nap in this afternoon and will be working on whittling down the email backlog. I'm teaching tonight and am praying that my brain will be functioning within somewhat normal parameters.
~ While I was in Weno, Chuuk meeting with the pastors one of the issues that they brought up was the elimination of the neck-tie requirement for pastors. Obviously, neck-ties are imported symbols of status inappropriate to the climate. But there are enough of the church members and pastors who are locked into that particular model of status that it persists -- in spite of the fact that they're all dripping with sweat in their un-airconditioned worship "synagogues" along the Equator. There is hope.
~ Jens and Karin Schulz, Liebenzell missionaries from Germany, who work with us at PIBC, received word that the US Customs and Immigration people have suddenly decided that they aren't religious workers and have revoked their visa. They have two weeks to leave the country. PIBC will appeal. There are meetings with an attorney and our congresswoman's office on Wednesday. Pray. This couple is an important part of our team.
I'll refrain from a major rant about the government office which handles this. They pulled a similar but slightly different stunt on the regional Liebenzell coordinator a few months ago. Sometimes it's so embarrassing to be an American -- especially in regard to way that we treat our guests. It is beyond explanation.
