Insular

I'm occasionally asked whether living on a small island doesn't drive me crazy. Whether I am crazy of not I'll leave to others to decide but I can comment on the underlying nature of the question.

It's not the size of the island itself that is the challenge but the size of the thinking that characterizes a lot of the islands. People don't come right out and say that they think the rest of the world should revolve around their island and their island's issues. But they are genuinely baffled when they aren't treated as though they are the center of the universe.
