July 4th on Guam

The American Independence Day celebration on Guam is a bit more low key than what we're used to on the mainland. The parade and the big fireworks and will come out on July 21st when Guam celebrates Liberation Day -- commemorating the 1944 landing of US troops which began the process of recapturing the island from the Japanese. (Guam was secured on August 10, 1944.)

We spent the morning doing a little sight seeing up at Leo Palace Resort and then shopping a bit. However, in the afternoon we joined some of the military families from LCG for BBQ and swimming on "Big Navy" (US Naval Station, Guam). The fish were beautiful, the company was great, and the kids kept us entertained.

The pictures are of some of the kids playing in the bay water and the sky
facing west onto the Philippine Sea just after sunset.
